The 1972 Porsche 911 could easily be called the best of all the early 911 models. The key feature that makes the
1972 year special is the forward mounted oil tank with external fill or also called Oil Clapper in Europe. Placing
the large oil tank forward of the rear wheels made the car better balanced. For the 1972 and 1973 cars there were
many major improvements over past years, one of the biggest improvements was the 915 transmission which was the
first modern shifting transmission fitted to the early cars. The 2.4L engine was fitted with a stroked crankshaft
and lower compression pistons which mean the cars have much more torque and need less revs to get them going so
they are easier to drive, especially in traffic. Further they can use any fuel available despite the octane rating.
The lower compression adds to the longevity of the engines but they were also able to give more horsepower than
previous cars through larger displacement. The last major improvement to the 2.4 cars was the suspension, the
