From the back deck watch pelicans, an occasional school of dolphins, boats and parasailers in the Sound. Day trips to Destin or Gulf Shores or a 1 hour drive to Blackwater River State Park to go tubing or canoeing or hiking along the cleanest sandy bottom river in the world. Two miles from great seafood restaurants, charter boat fishing, sailboat and waverunner and parasailing rentals, bands on the beach on Tuesday nites, shopping or dancing along the boardwalk, the trolley stops along the street in front of the house to take you there. In town, Pensacola Naval Air Station has one of the greatest museums of planes and stories in the US. Ft Pickens is a very historic walk thru that is only 10 miles away on the eastern end of the island. The scenic drive along the Gulf on one side and the Sound on the other is worth it just for the ride. A toll is collected by the Gulf Islands National Seashore rangers to get to Ft. Pickens There is a fishing pier at the main beach on the Gulf and there is an even longer pier at Navarre Beach with a state park.
