## Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the EOP Assistant Director supports the development, coordination, and implementation of a successful academic and personal support program for historically disadvantaged students who have diverse talents, strengths, experiences and needs. The Assistant Director will contribute to the retention and degree completion of EOP students by providing direct service to students in addition to administrative activities. Through their activities, the incumbent will help to create a departmental and campus environment that supports the mission of EOP. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a program encouraging an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened and productive environment and demonstrates sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.

## Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

The EOP Assistant Director will be an enthusiastic self-starter who uses sound professional judgment when supporting students or making administrative decisions and who resolves problems diplomatically, discretely, and in accordance with campus policies, procedures, and education law. The EOP Assistant Director will have both administrative and direct student service responsibilities that include but are not limited to:



* assist in the oversight and coordination of the daily operations of the EOP Office, and respond to administrative matters in the absence of the Director;


* assist in the preparation of annual enrollment reports, campus annual reports, and assessment activities;


* assist in the hiring, training and evaluation of student tutorial staff and provide oversight and leadership for the EOP tutorial program;


* provide proactive academic and personal support for an assigned student caseload;


* initiate regular reviews of student academic progress for assigned caseload including reviews of Degree Works Audits, schedules, transcripts, etc. and provide summary reports of findings;


* participate fully in the development and implementation of the EOP Summer Institute;


* assist in the recruitment and review of EOP applicants


* assist in the coordination of program special events

## Required Qualifications:



* Masters Degree in Educational Administration & Leadership, Student Affairs, or related program


* 1-5 years of student affairs experience in a 4-year college or university


* Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary


* Experience supervising student staff


* Experience coordinating and providing academic support (e.g. programming, advisement services)


* Strong analytic and problem solving skills


* Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as presentation and networking skills


* A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students


* Valid NYS Driver’s License

## Preferred Qualifications:



* 1-5 years of experience in Opportunity Programs or TRIO programs


* Experience in pre-college summer-bridge type programs


* Experience coordinating and facilitating events, meetings, and student activities


* Advanced knowledge and abilities in the following areas: experience with high risk students from diverse backgrounds, effective study skills and learning strategies
