General Counsel Duties: Serve as primary attorney. Ensure that all of our operations adhere to best practices and proactively find constructive, creative and actionable solutions to address any potential legal and regulatory issues and allow the business to thrive. Review our legal documents and agreements to limit risk and maximize benefits. Work with the Policy team to implement safeguards to ensure regulatory compliance in new and existing markets. Support commercial deal structuring, negotiations and agreement drafting and implementation. Manage ongoing corporate governance and legal compliance requirements. Early identification, advice and resolution of legal and compliance risks, effective management of contracting requirements. Ability to draft, review, structure and negotiate various real estate, including but limited to leasing agreements and financing agreements, escrow, mortgage, purchase and sale agreements working with other departments to make this process run smoothly. Support service distribution, revenue generation and compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and best practice corporate governance standards. Support and enable domestic and international growth, while mitigating a range of risks. Review legal contracts and agreements between AvantStay and third-parties and advising the business and executive units on any legal risks, liabilities etc. associated with deals/contracts. Review marketing, advertising and promotional materials for compliance with relevant advertising, privacy, consumer law etc. Review employment and employee option agreements prepared by HR. Create, implement and manage corporate governance processes and procedures as required to ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements. Review employee practices to ensure that these practices comply with internal company policies and any relevant regulations and legislative requirements. Instruct and liaise with external law firms in relation to more specialist work.

Qualifications: History of practicing law in California, admitted to the CA bar in good standing. 6+ years of experience practicing law in real estate, the hospitality industry, startups, or financial services, either in-house or at a national law firm. Must have 2+ years' experience working in-house as CLO or General Counsel. 3 years' working with real estate and a strong understanding of commercial leasing agreements, permitting, zoning and compliance with exceptional drafting and negotiation skills. Experience working with regulations. Pertaining to short-term rental, hotel and other transient occupancy use permitting, zoning, and compliance. Strong commercial acumen and experience working in high growth start-ups preferred. Humble and self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and willingness to step in where needed. Familiarity with corporate governance requirements. Excellent oral and written communication skills, supported by exceptional interpersonal, team collaboration and organizational skills. Problem solver who is able to shift to new projects, ideas and approaches and has a high effectiveness while juggling many tasks and working across multiple projects.
