Dynamic, strong-growth, global manufacturer has an immediate opening. The Project Engineer / Mechanical Designer will design, plan, coordinate, and manager Plant Capital Projects which will improve plant performance in the areas of operation, cost reduction, quality, safety, and environmental. You will facilitate an environment that reduces unplanned downtime.
Responsibilities include:
* Design, or direct the design of, mechanical assemblies and piece parts which function as required to meet customer needs.
* Create design layouts which meet Company standards, which are accurate, and which are completed enough to be understood by designers and/or engineers for reference.
* Monitor progress of mechanical designers and/or drafters assigned to his project
* Create detailed machine drawings, as required, which meet Company Standards, are complete and can be read and understood by a machinist.
* Ensure that all projects comply with federal and local regulatory guidelines.Prepare and distribute drawing packages, Bills of Material and other information as will be required.
* Create assembly machine drawings which meet Company Standards, are complete, and can be read and understood by Mechanical Assembly personnel
* Prepare unit cost estimates and make recommendations on equipment needs.
* Ensure that machines and components are safe and/or safely guarded
* Perform calculations as required to validate design decisions
* Implement customer "punch list" items, if needed
You must be able to identify project tasks, develop plans and then implement plans. You should have experience working in cross-functional teams environment. Looking for Lean/Six Sigma problem solving skills.
Requirements:
BS degree in Engineering preferred. You should have 5+ years of project engineering experience in a large engineering environment. You should have:
* Proficiency in the application and use of mechanical components such as bearings, bushings, sprockets, gears, cams, etc. (familiarity with electromechanical devices such as servo-motor electrocams, etc.).
* Proficiency in advanced electrical control concepts and capabilities, and the requirements of system control.
* Ability to perform analytical calculations to evaluate design concepts, including stress/strain, torque, acceleration, drive ratios, etc. and the ability to evaluate system operations,
including production rates for machine processes, and ability to recognize potential problems from customer product configurations.
* Familiarity with basic machining practices
* Experience in designing automated equipment from concept to completion is preferred. Strong SolidWorks skills.
