Description
 
Directs, plans, coordinates and implements the fund raising administrative and operational activities for the College of Human Medicine. Leads, mentors and coaches fundraising staff and volunteers in order to increase the level of monies received from the private sector. This includes supervision of professional staff, recruiting and training volunteers, conducting a needs assessment of programs, identifying and cultivating prospects, developing and reviewing proposals and actively soliciting contributions. Note that this position is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and includes weekly travel to the East Lansing campus.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and implements methods of prospect identification, solicitation and cultivation in order to achieve successful solicitations for funds, and match donor's interest with the needs of the College.
Plans and implements the major gifts and planned gifts program for the College
Oversees major gift, annual giving, alumni functions for the College. Supervises, directs, coaches and mentors professional fundraising staff and clerical staff to achieve established goals.
Recruits, trains, motivates and evaluates volunteers in order to accomplish college goals and objectives.
Audits internal operations in order to develop standardized procedures and to ensure conformity with established policy.
Plans, hosts and communicates at meetings of the public and University personnel in order to provide information on the College and/or University.
Develops and monitors budget and expenses in order to ensure stewardship of university resources and alignment with departmental goals.
Provides assistance to donors regarding tax laws, policies and procedures and resolves problems in order to maintain a positive image of the University.
Assists in setting both long- and short-term goals in order to determine resources required.
Collaborates and coordinates activities with the external relations staff, including public relations and communication, in order to ensure coordination of information to alumni and friends of the College.
Prepares and interprets statistical data results for College Administrators.
Coordinates the composing, editing and publishing of College fundraising literature in order to provide staff and volunteers with campaign progress reports.

 
Qualifications
 

A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Business.
Eight years in professional fund raising, public relations, marketing or a related field or five years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education development, medical fundraising, public relations or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in facilitating major gifts through planned giving instruments.
Working knowledge of tax laws affecting charitable giving.
Travel involving automobile.
