Description
 
The Assistant Director of Development – Special Gifts will identify, cultivate and solicit gifts and pledges with donors capable of making gifts from $10,000 - $50,000.  Manage and develop a portfolio of 150-200+ prospects and donors on behalf of Michigan State Athletics.  Steward current donors and help them maximize benefits related to MSU Athletics.  Frequent in state travel is required as well as regular participation in evening and weekend activities.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and manage a portfolio of 150-200+ special gift prospects focusing on solicitations from $10,000 - $50,000. 
Conduct at least 15-20 face to face strategic meetings per month with donors and prospects.  
Gather data, assess prospects and develop strategies designed to realize the current and life-time giving potential of individual prospects.
Utilize gift report to find new prospects for special gifts and major gifts teams.
Partner with the Athletic Development and University Development colleagues to develop, plan and execute a successful capital campaign.
 
Qualifications
 
REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree
Positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to work autonomously, collaboratively and within a team structure.

PREFERRED

Two years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional sports / intercollegiate athletics, professional fund raising, public relations, marketing, higher education fund raising or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with an entrepreneurial mindset
Demonstrated ability to work within a campus culture that includes a diverse array of personalities, and cohesively manage conflicting expectations.
Available to manage 50% travel, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, when needed.
