Mothupi’s contended peaceful life was thrown upside down when his father, mother, and sisters were brutally murdered by a mob in Komati village. He was the only family member who survived the onslaught. The incident forced him to flee his village resulting in him being disconnected from everyone and everything he knew. Mothupi’s father who also had to flee his village at an early age under painful circumstances was his coach, mentor and role model. Mothupi met many challenges and obstacles in his life but was determined to lead a successful life. He could not forget what happened to his family but decided that the only way to honour them was to do everything within his power to first forgive the offenders and focus on leading an impactful life.

Mothupi found refuge in Uhuru, a village far away from Komati. He was determined to honour and protect his father’s legacy by living the values he has imparted to him. It was in Uhuru where he found closure to his painful past, found the love of his life, got married, had beautiful children and became extremely wealthy. Mothupi’s father’s integrity, humility, love, and compassion for people left an indelible impression on his life. He was eternally grateful for his example.

The difficulties that we go through in life are never intended to make us bitter but better people. Adversity strengthens our souls. Resentment and bitterness can only blur one’s vision of the future. Parents, more especially fathers and husbands must be empowered to effectively carry out their God given responsibilities of loving, caring, guiding, and protecting their families. Honesty and hard work are the principles of life that are helping us build healthy and dignified communities as well as encouraging moral and ethical practices in the society. When we approach every second of our lives as an opportunity bunting with potential steps towards greatness, we have the chance to enrich our lives, the lives of those around us, and make the world a better place to live in.

The Adventures of Mothupi seeks to encourage values that will help build benevolent character in children, teenagers, young adults and in the process contributing in them being better and responsible adults. It reveals values that are critical for survival in Africa in a story form. It has potential to influence behaviour and inspire positive outlook towards life and the environment among children and teenagers. The Adventures of Mothupi highlights the critical role fathers and husbands play in the upbringing of children and the subsequent influence they have in shaping and moulding their children’s character.
