To investors, corporate transparency focuses on clear, easy-to-understand financial statements. High-profile cases of financial mischief in the news over the last 15 years or so, has made the public more aware that C-suite execs dont always disclose accurate financial reports. A small percentage of businesses consciously intend to defraud investors. Others release information that technically conforms to legal requirements but is misleading to the public in its reporting. CEOs can easily take advantage of murky financials and complex conglomerate business structures to conceal unattractive truths or unpleasant news if they want to.
