AGENCE COMMENTS: The Kentucky Department of Corrections in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Medical Director. This position develops operating procedures for the provision of health services at a state institution. Recommends policy, oversees programs, and/or supervises physicians and medical specialists; and performs other duties as required.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES:

*Develops, formulates and assists in the implementation of policy in order to effectively administer a medical services program.

*Coordinates a variety of specialties and technical resources.

*Provides consultation to staff physicians during medical staff conferences and at other times when necessary.

*Confers with facility and/or program administrators concerning all aspects of medical services.

*Represents facility or program before medical societies, professional organizations and government units.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have five years experience in the practice of medicine

A Masters Degree in public health will substitute for two years of the experience

EXPERIENCE: Must be licensed to practice medicine by the Kentucky State Board of Medical Licensure and must be Board Certified in a specialty area of medicine. hhht://kbml.ky.gov. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver's license and required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this class. If this is necessary it will be listed in the specific position description for that position. Applicants and employees in this job title may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check. Applicants and employees in positions which perform job duties that may require contact with offenders in the custody or supervision of the Department of Corrections or with youth in the care, custody, or supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice must meet qualifications pursuant to the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, 28 C.F.R.115.17 and 115.317.
