Licensed Dental Assistant
Job Description
Position Summary: Directly assist dentist, set up patient and equipment, keep records and all other duties assigned.

Assistant Duties
Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instruments trays, prepare materials and assist dentist during dental procedures.
Completing postoperative instructions and treatment care calls as prescribed by dentist.
Expose digital x-rays.
Update patient records - medical history and recording blood pressure and pulse.
Assist dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies.
Monitoring patient at all times while they are in the chair.(This is an absolute must for children 12 years
old (and under), or when nitrous is administered.)
Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment and procedures.
Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
Taking impressions of patient’s teeth for study casts (models of teeth); filling out lab slips properly
Also needs to be able to perform all expanded functions of a Licensed Dental Assistant.

Clerical Duties
Record keeping and documenting of patient chart using dental software, Dentrix, accurately and completely.
Oral and written comprehension in communicating with patients and teammates.
Competent in explaining treatment plans and understanding dental treatments as prescribed by the dentist.
Competent in making financial arrangements with patients before treatment is rendered and printing out necessary treatment plans.
Follow through on patient’s needs after dental treatment, such as prescriptions, payment plans, etc.

Daily Housekeeping Duties
Restocking shelves and mobiles.Cleaning mobiles.
Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Changing traps.
Disposing of trash properly and changing trash receptacles.
Maintaining a clean and sterile operatory; sweeping and washing floors when necessary.

Physical Demands
May be required to sit (while assisting doctor) for up to two (2) hours. May need to lift items that weigh up to
50 lbs. Standing for up to two (2) hours, twisting and turning may be required.
Dress Code
All assistants are required to wear scrubs. Lab Coats are provided. Sturdy shoes, no open toes. A name tag is required of all staff directly involved with patients.

Personal Hygiene
Good personal hygiene is mandatory in order to maintain a professional medical atmosphere. No facial piercing or visible tattoos. Earrings are OK. Refrain from using perfume or scented lotions. Hair must be well kept and not interfere with vision or dental procedures. Fingernails must be kept short and no artificial fingernails or extenders.
